  1.   Tessa Berenson writes in Time that a bipartisan group of more than 150 of Judge Neil Gorsuch’s classmates at Columbia University signed a letter supporting his nomination to be our next Supreme Court justice.

Time: Neil Gorsuch’s Columbia Classmates Wrote a Letter of Support For His Supreme Court Nomination

“More than 150 of Neil Gorsuch’s former classmates at Columbia University, both Democrats and Republicans, have written a letter supporting his nomination to the Supreme Court. The letter, sent this week to Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and ranking member Dianne Feinstein (D-Ca) and provided exclusively to TIME, recounts Gorsuch’s academic achievements and his genial presence on campus. ‘On campus, Neil was an upstanding person and a devoted friend; a man of unyielding integrity, faith in our institutions and unfailing politeness,’ the letter says. ‘For his kindness and down-to-earth persona, we often joked that he was a modern-day Jimmy Stewart… And the letter notes some qualities particularly germane to Gorsuch’s potential seat in the nation’s highest court. ‘The hallmark of Neil Gorsuch’s tenure at Columbia was his unflagging commitment to respectful and open dialogue on campus,’ the letter states. ‘Despite an often contentious environment, Neil was a steadfast believer that we could disagree without being disagreeable. To be sure, he could deliver a devastating argument, laden with carefully researched facts and presented in a crisp and organized manner. Yet he was always a thoughtful and fair-minded listener who would not hesitate to re-evaluate his own beliefs when presented with persuasive arguments.’”

  1.   Writing for the Montana Standard, Judge Russell Fagg, a State District Court Judge, writes that Judge Gorsuch is a good choice for the Supreme Court.

Montana Standard: Gorsuch good choice for U.S. Supreme Court

“Judge Gorsuch believes judges should follow the law, not make it. That policy decisions are up to Congress, not Courts. Gorsuch favors state’s rights over federal rights, and believes the Constitution should be given its original intent, not to be changed based on today’s mores. Importantly for Montanans, Gorsuch is a fellow Westerner. In the end analysis, I believe the selection of Judge Gorsuch is a home run. He will make an excellent Supreme Court justice and should be confirmed without delay.

  1.   Ken Klukowski writes at Breitbart News that top legal experts praised Judge Gorsuch’s judicial record at an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation.

Breitbart News: Top Legal Experts Analyze Gorsuch Judicial Record

First was Boyden Gray, a famous Supreme Court litigator who is a former law clerk to Chief Justice Earl Warren, White House counsel under the first President Bush, and U.S. ambassador to the European Union. ‘The best part of what Gorsuch has done is taken on the administrative state,’ Gray began, going on to discuss to how much deference courts give to government agencies on how to interpret statutes and make regulations. This was also a reference to courts invalidating administrative actions under laws like the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) when those agencies adopt rules that violate religious-liberty rights… Second was Mike Carvin, a partner at Jones Day who has argued many of the past decade’s most important constitutional cases at the Supreme Court. ‘This guy goes deep,’ Carvin said of Gorsuch, describing him as someone who thoroughly explores ‘every rabbit hole’ offered by lawyers arguing at his Denver-based appeals court. Carvin added that Gorsuch routinely responds with a ‘meticulous’ analysis to such arguments, instead of merely brushing them aside, as Carvin admitted he would do himself if he were a judge listening to such arguments. Gorsuch is particularly good on First Amendment rights, Carvin continued, showing ‘sympathy for political speech’ and favoring ‘muscular protections’ for rights of expression.
